BEHIND THE WRITING

Where Do the Stories Come From?

"The honest answer is everywhere."

J.E.S. Tomson's stories often begin with a character, an idea, or a question. Sometimes a character's voice arrives fully formed. Sometimes an idea has lived quietly for years before the right character brings it to life.

And sometimes mythology sparks the imagination.

Minotaurs. Satyrs. Merpeople.

What if they weren't mythology at all? What if they were aliens?

J.E.S. Tomson Author
A STORY THAT WRITES ITSELF

The writing process is largely about story evolution. An idea may begin with a character or sometimes with the ending but the journey between those points belongs to the characters. Sometimes the story surprises even the author. And that's part of the magic.

Reader's Corner

The character J.E.S. Tomson relates to most hasn't even appeared in the original trilogy. Readers will meet her in MIROcles Still Happen. The connection comes from MIRO's love of learning, her relationship with horses, her desire to explore, and her dream of going into space.

While characters are inspired by real-life traits, emotions, and interactions, each character in the Murkatz War universe is crafted to stand on their own with unique motivations and personalities.
