The Humans

Humanity has expanded beyond Earth, establishing colonies on the Moon and Mars, and is mining in the Asteroid Belt. Royal families rule, political intrigue, power struggles, and fragile alliances define the political conditions within the solar system. Ambassadors, soldiers, spies, and scientists stand at the frontier of an uncertain future. And some humans are developing "gifts."

The CATS

Through genetic engineering and natural selection, certain breeds of cats - particularly the Siamese - have become much larger, learned to talk, achieved sentience, and developed telepathic abilities. Some can 'think-talk,' sensing other minds -including aliens - over vast distances. HAZZ and SAMI are among the most powerful. They are not pet cats, they are CATS. They have chosen to partner with humans.

The Alien Predators

Generations of predators, they travel in a huge fleet, searching for new worlds to consume. They come to kill to eat and to breed. They have no interest in colonizing, only consuming. Their scouts were not detected by humanity's technology, but by the telepathic senses of the CATS. The invasion is not a question of if - but when.

Genetic Bioengineering

The line between natural evolution and scientific intervention blurs. Genetic modification gave CATS their size and ability to talk; that led to sentience. But telepathy - that wasn't even considered. Now that ability may hold the key to defeating the alien threat.

Future Earth

Earth has changed after decades of plagues decimated her populations. New nations formed and now must prepare for planetary defense while political turmoil threatens to tear alliances apart. The Federation of Nations, the Suronese Union, and the remaining nations of Earth must face this truth: without unity between the nations - and between humans and CATS - the Earth falls.

The Murkatz War

DR. JILLIAN "QUINN" CONNOR

A SCIENTIFIC PRODIGY SPECIALIZING IN GENETICS AND BIOENGINEERING.

As a child, Quinn wanted to communicate with her cats. As a teenager, she went much further bioengineering oversized cats capable of communicating with her and much more. As an adult she must recognize and use her special abilities as she organizes and joins the gifted Nobavi Team to protect Earth.

DR. MICHAEL "MIKE" THOMAS

The stabilizing anchor for his family and the CATS.

Veterinary surgeon and animal behaviorist specializing in behavior modification and the training of difficult and highly intelligent animals.

Husband of Jillian and father of Connor. Now he must help identify and support the CATS who will be the base for the Nobavi Team.

Murkatz

Marauding, killer warriors whose entire population lives in a massive Fleet of spaceships. They invade any planet unable to defend against their Fleet or their warriors on the ground. They target every planet with sufficient large animals to feed their population, regardless of sentience. To the Murkatz, humans are nothing more than food.

THE CATS

BIG, INTELLIGENT, TELEPATHIC, VOCAL

No longer animals and certainly not pets. They have a society with a queen, her advisors and a military leader. They are alarmingly big, strong, fast and smart. They choose to be companions with humans — but on their terms. Their instinct is to protect their own, and they do so fiercely. And they don't hesitate to tell humans when they are being foolish.

A former Murkatz warrior, HE'O was captured by humans and nearly died from injuries inflicted by his own people. Away from the Fleet and the effects of the battle drug given to Murkatz warriors, HE'O slowly discovers the intelligent artist hidden beneath his warrior identity. Then MIRO enters his life. He knows exactly what she is—and understands both the dangers and possibilities she represents.

GIFTED, ARTIST, RANCHER, AND FRIEND OF HE'O AND THE SIOUX.

Living next to the Sioux reservation, Julia becomes a mother figure to MIRO and encourages her to compete on horseback.

JOHN DEERRUNNER

Sees HE’O as the cougar spirit made physical.

De Facto chief of the Sioux people slowly returning to claim their land on the reservation where HE’O KNHEROSHI is now living in his isolated ranch house/studio on the prairie. John is protector and friend to the former Murkatz warrior — and of the rescued cub, MIRO, when she is sent to live with HE’O.
